SUMMARY:IKC Webinars: RSV in Infants; Reducing Vaccination Pain & Anxiety in Children
DESCRIPTION:IKC presents two webinars for health professionals focused on pediatric vaccinations: \nRespiratory syncytial virus (RSV) remains a leading cause of hospitalization among infants. RSV immunization recommendations are complex due to: \n\nSeasonality of the disease\nNeed to immunize specific groups of young children within a limited timeframe\nAvailability of two prevention strategies—one for pregnant women (maternal RSV vaccination) and the other for young children (administration of preventive monoclonal antibodies).\n\nBoth RSV prevention strategies are relatively new\, having been licensed in 2023\, making it important for healthcare professionals to understand current recommendations and common implementation challenges. \nLearning Objectives:\nFollowing this activity\, participants will be able to: \n\nSummarize the importance of infant RSV immunization in 1-3 sentences\nDesign a 10-minute in-service for clinicians regarding common technical errors (e.g.\, giving RSV mAb after maternal vaccination)\nAppraise online resources that answer frequently asked questions from parents and clinicians\n\nReducing Vaccination Pain & Anxiety in Children\nTuesday\, June 30th\, from 12:30-1:00 CT \nVaccination is one of the most effective ways to protect children from serious illness\, yet pain and anxiety associated with needles can create distress for children and families and contribute to vaccine hesitancy over time. Because childhood vaccination experiences can influence attitudes toward immunization well into adulthood\, creating positive experiences early can help reduce needle fear and support lifelong vaccine acceptance. \nLearning Objectives:\nRegarding managing pain and anxiety for children undergoing vaccination\, participants will be able to: \n\nSummarize the importance of this topic in 1-3 sentences\nDesign a 10-minute in-service for other clinicians regarding interventions that are evidence-based and feasible to implement in their setting\nAppraise online resources to guide parents and clinicians who want to improve the child’s vaccination experience
