Epidemiology & Prevention Of Vaccine Preventable Diseases (The Pink Book) Course

Faculty from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) will present a live, comprehensive review of immunization principles, as well as vaccine-preventable diseases and the recommended vaccines to prevent them. The 2 day course will feature the most up-to-date immunization information from the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP).
WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
The course is designed for anyone seeking the most comprehensive and current knowledge of immunization, including physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, medical assistants, pharmacists, immunization providers, program managers, nursing and medical students, and other medical support staff. Participants will need to have a basic understanding of biology and immunization.
OBJECTIVES:
After attending this course, participants will be able to:
- Describe the difference between active and passive immunity
- Compare and contrast the characteristics of live, attenuated vaccines and inactivated vaccines
- For each vaccine-preventable disease, identify those for whom routine immunization is recommended
- Describe characteristics of the vaccine(s) used to prevent each disease
- Describe an emerging immunization issue related to pediatric/adolescent/adult immunization
- Implement disease detection and prevention health care services to prevent health problems and maintain health
CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDIT:
Continuing education for a variety of professionals will be available through CDC Train after completion of the course.
