The National Network of Immunization Coalitions highlights the Arizona Partnership for Immunization (TAPI)

TAPI is a statewide coalition with a mission to foster community wellness and advocate for public policy and the best immunization practices. Through the efforts of TAPI’s partners from both the public and private sectors, immunization coverage rates in Arizona have improved dramatically, with nearly three in four children fully immunized by age two.

TAPI has been busy offering free training for vaccine administrators. The Training on Immunization Practice Strategies (T.I.P.S) program highlights vaccine basics, storage and handling, vaccine administration and documentation, and best practices. TAPI has held 15 statewide training courses over the summer, with 950 attendees representing 273 organizations.

TAPI honored 122 individuals, organizations, and initiatives at the 27th Annual Best Practices and Brightest Stars Ceremony on April 19, 2023. More than 350 people attended the event at the Mesa Convention Center as part of the 30th Annual Arizona Immunization Conference. This event is held each year to honor the work that the community is doing to increase immunization rates and efforts within Arizona. The Daniel T. Cloud Outstanding Practice Award recognizes practices that have reached 90% completion rates for toddler and teen immunization series.

In October, TAPI’s social media focused on promoting vaccines for respiratory illnesses for Halloween. Every year during October, TAPI hosts a Halloween-themed presentation on Facebook Live. This year’s presentation was called Boo the Flu and Other Viruses Too. The event featured two medical professionals from the community discussing the importance of being vaccinated during the respiratory season. TAPI also offers Boo Boxes (for children and dogs) that are mailed with immunization flyers and fun Halloween toys and activities.

TAPI offers a wide variety of free materials providing vaccine information for all Arizona communities to utilize, including social media toolkits, flyers, postcards, posters, buttons, and stickers. Partners can order materials for free, and TAPI will ship them to their community. Partners are also able to edit the materials to add images, logos, and additional information to best suit their communities.

TAPI partnered with Immunize Kansas Coalition (IKC) and Back to the Vax to cobrand Vaccine Fear Overturned by Facts materials. These materials are intended to be a factual rebuttal with personal stories to address common vaccine myths. The materials are made for parents, someone with a fear of needles, and clinicians caring for patients. The toolkit includes a booklet, fact sheets, and social media content. All materials are available in both English and Spanish.

Additionally, TAPI has been partnering with Mohave County, a medically unserved community that has high vaccine exemption rates. TAPI works with the county public health department and other local and state partners to increase vaccine accessibility and education in the community. The coalition has been partnering on local events to provide vaccine information and immunizations for children.

State and local leaders from the healthcare community joined in an important conversation about Arizona’s declining childhood immunization rates at the Arizona Vaccine Congress in March and October. Attendees gathered to address common concerns, identify and prioritize key problems, and begin to work on solutions that will provide access to all recommended vaccines.

Finally, TAPI manages a centralized business office that contracts with public and private health plans and submits immunization claims on behalf of the county health departments. The reimbursement collected is pooled to purchase child and adult vaccines. It also funds vaccine equity outreach clinics for insured and uninsured patients.
