The National Network of Immunization Coalitions highlights WithinReach

WithinReach serves as a key connector and advocate for families in Washington, particularly those currently and historically affected by disparities. The coalition partners with communities to connect families to equitable system support and advocates to ensure essential resources are available and accessible to young children and their caregivers.

WithinReach serves as a connection point between families often in crisis and the resources they need, and amplifies partner and community voices to lawmakers to ensure essential resources are available and accessible. The coalition’s approach is rooted in working alongside partners, providers, and policymakers to create meaningful change—not just for individual families but for entire Washington communities. Through initiatives like Basic Food education, Medicaid outreach, and the Immunization Action Coalition of Washington (IACW), WithinReach ensures families can access critical services that support their health and well-being. As the coordinated access point and lead affiliate in Washington for Help Me Grow, WithinReach maximizes community resources so families feel supported every step of the way.

Healthy, resourced families make strong communities. Driven to break down barriers that prevent families from living healthy lives, WithinReach advocates for public policy and budget matters that directly advance its mission and vision. Legislative priorities this year include:

  • Raising awareness and advocating for immunization efforts: IACW is not a lobbying coalition, but it provides a platform for coalition members to share opportunities to raise awareness and advocate for immunization efforts. The most notable was the passage of SB 5982 in March 2024 which updated the definition of “vaccine” in state law to include all FDA-approved immunizations recommended by the CDC. WithinReach staff and coalition members participated in raising awareness and advocating for this bill.
  • Improving access to healthy foods: WithinReach supports efforts to increase access to healthy foods for people who struggle to afford nutritious foods, including expanding access to school meals and food assistance programs.
  • Building a Help Me Grow system in Washington: WithinReach leads efforts to build statewide capacity for Help Me Grow and to build specialized pathways such as expansion of the Plan of Safe Care.
  • Investing in Washington’s Prenatal-to-Three Coalition: WithinReach is the backbone organization for the Washington Prenatal-to-Three Coalition, which sets forth an annual shared legislative agenda to advance initiatives, funding, and policies that support prenatal-to-three families.

WithinReach offers educational events and toolkits for the community, including:

WithinReach has served as the backbone for the IACW since it started in 1994. IACW is dedicated to improving the health of Washingtonians by reducing vaccine-preventable diseases through equitable access and optimal use of immunizations across all stages of life. This statewide coalition brings together a diverse group of stakeholders, including public health agencies, healthcare professionals, school nurses, health systems, health plans, community health boards, and corporate partners, to advance its mission.
