The National Network of Immunization Coalitions highlights the Hawai‘i Immunization Coalition (HIC)

The Hawai‘i Immunization Coalition (HIC) is now a program of Hawai‘i Public Health Institute (HIPHI) and will debut its new website in June. The coalition is focused on ensuring all Hawai’i families are appropriately vaccinated across the lifespan against vaccine-preventable diseases.

June 23–25, HIPHI will host one of the largest gatherings of public health stakeholders in the Pacific. The conference theme, Navigating Change: Shaping the Future of Public Health, will provide insights into a rapidly evolving public health landscape marked by shifting federal priorities and funding cuts, while exploring pathways to advance the policies, systems, and environments that shape health. The keynote speaker, Katelyn Jetelina, PhD, MPH, founder and CEO of Your Local Epidemiologist, is a prominent public health communicator who translates ever-evolving science for the public and has reached over 500 million views across 133 countries. At the conference, HIC will participate in a roundtable to discuss its work and changes in Hawai’i’s vaccine and immunization landscape.

The coalition will also hold an in-person general meeting on June 23 to convene its broader network of members, providers, and allies, featuring a panel of vaccine experts, including members of its advisory committee, to lead discussions and strategize on future direction for the statewide coalition.

Beyond the conference, HIC’s work spans education, advocacy, and community engagement. The coalition assists in selecting the Hawai’i Immunization Champion, an annual award recognizing individuals who make a significant contribution to improving public health through their work in childhood immunization. HIC also leads the Vaccine Preventable Cancers Workgroup, provides biannual in-person community health education for providers, and works with the HIPHI policy team to engage local policymakers. Its student group, the Student Immunization Initiative (SII)—comprising students from undergraduate to PhD levels—focuses on outreach and education within the student community. HIC also partners with local universities and develops community educational materials for school-age children, for use in classrooms and at home.

Watch for the Hawai‘i Immunization Coalition’s website in the coming months, and make sure to follow the coalition’s progress on Instagram at @hubforhealth.

American Families for Vaccines and the International Vaccine Access Center share new Vaccine Policy Atlas

American Families for Vaccines (AFV) and the International Vaccine Access Center (IVAC) at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health recently released the Vaccine Policy Atlas, a policy resource for vaccine advocates in the 14 U.S. states where AFV has chapters. The atlas outlines how state vaccine laws align with federal immunization recommendations from the ACIP and CDC, enabling advocates, state lawmakers, and coalitions to identify how federal changes to vaccine recommendations might affect vaccine access or policies in their states.

As federal vaccine infrastructure remains uncertain, the Vaccine Policy Atlas helps state leaders understand their legal framework and evaluate whether additional clarity or reinforcement is needed to preserve access to vaccines.
